Derrick Williams

Assistant Director
Recruitment and Retention

"Throughout my life, music has always had a way of finding me," asserts Derrick Williams, Assistant Director of Recruitment and Retention. At age 4, Derrick began singing for family and friends; music continued to make its way into his life throughout his formative years and even when he arrived at Purdue as a freshman. His talent was brought to the attention of Bill Luhman (then Director of Purdue Varsity Glee Club) when a Glee Clubber overheard Derrick singing in the shower. After majoring in Glee Club for several years, he worked in Indianapolis and returned to Purdue to complete his bachelor's degree in 1995. At age 35, music found Derrick again when he went from visiting a Glee Club rehearsal to making a decision to rejoin the group while completing his baccalaureate study in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. In 2001, Derrick completed his master's degree in Technology: Teaching/Training. Much of his background involves vocational counseling, teaching, training and human resources. Derrick's new position combines these skills with his passion for music and his enthusiasm for PMO. Throughout his adult life, he has had the opportunity to be a featured soloist and the director of numerous gospel, community, and local church choir groups.
