FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PMO ALUMNI & THE 75th ANNIVERSARY PURDUE CHRISTMAS SHOW

Boiler Up!

When do I need to commit?

As soon as possible! For planning purposes, we need you to let us know exactly which shows and which sets you plan to participate in. For example, you may plan to participate only in the three shows on Saturday and only in the Cantata. Or, you may plan to participate only in the 4pm show on Sunday and perform in both the Purduette set and the Cantata. Or perhaps you plan to participate in every show, every Glee Club set and every Cantata! Whatever your plans may be, please let us know as soon as possible!

I’m ready to commit to be part of the 75th Anniversary Purdue Christmas Show. What should I do?

Whether you’re ready to commit or you still have some questions, please contact our secretary/receptionist Andrea Ridge via e-mail aridge@purdue.edu or by phone (765) 494-3941 or (800) 893-3041 as soon as possible.

Are recordings available of the alumni songs?

Yes! You can download recordings of the alumni songs by visiting our Alumni Recordings page!

I received my alumni packet in the mail, but I’m missing “Christmas is Calling You Home.” What should I do?

The music for “Christmas is Calling You Home” is still being arranged. As soon as it is finished, a PDF of the music and a recording will be made available for download on our Alumni Recordings page. We’ll also mail you a hard copy of the music.

Who is invited to participate?

Any alum of Purdue Musical Organizations including alumni from all ensembles, whether they currently exist at PMO or not. From Choraliers, Choral Club, PMO Express, University Choir to Glee Club and the list goes on. Even if you were only in for a semester, we want you to feel welcome and come home!

How will I participate?

Knowing we do not currently offer all the ensembles our alumni have participated in, we wanted to include all men and women by inviting them to be a part of our Glee Club and Purduette sets and of course, the Cantata.

If we had time to create a 4 hour show, we’d find a way to recreate all the ensembles we’ve ever offered, but we’re saving that for the 100th anniversary!

Will I have to pay for anything?

Yes. Once you send your card in we will send you a packet of music and a list of the meal costs, receptions and other things you may want to enjoy during the weekend. We also have a few “freebies” for you, too!

Will we have a chance to visit with friends from our era?

We hope so, but we need your help. Please contact as many friends as you can and get them back to Purdue.

Are there hotel arrangements?

No. However, the weekend of the Christmas Show all of the area hotels offer discounts for us and we partner with many of them. Please reference the list at the bottom of this page and be sure you call early.

Is there still a rehearsal planned over Homecoming weekend?

No! We have canceled the Homecoming weekend rehearsal and will not be having any additional rehearsals. Instead, rehearsals will be before each show.

Will I have to memorize my music?

Yes. You will receive the music and we ask you do your best to memorize it, as no music will be used on stage.

What will I wear?

Men in the Glee Club set will need to wear a black suit and black tie with a white dress shirt. Women will need to wear black skirts or pants and a top that has some type of shimmer, sparkle, sequins or beading that can be picked up by the lights on the stage. Ladies will want to be in full hair and makeup. The students will be here to help with that as well. Don’t worry, you will look MARVELOUS!

For the Cantata, you will be expected to wear a robe that will be provided by PMO. Women will need black dress shoes with off black hose. Men will need black dress shoes, black socks and black pants to wear under the robe.

How can I help?

Lots of ways!

1) Do you have photos from shows you were in? E-mail them to Steve Schlenk at sschlenk@purdue.edu.

2) Volunteer to help usher for the school matinee at 11:30am on Friday, December 12 by e-mailing student assistant Monica Ruberg at mruberg@purdue.edu.

3) Volunteer to help set up or clean before or after a show.

4) Volunteer to help man a reception before or after a show.

5) And most importantly, get all your classmates involved and invite everyone you know to come and see the 75th Anniversary of the Purdue Christmas Show!
